Launch 2012 National Football League

Pat Quill, Uachtarán Cumman Peil Gael na mBan, Ger Cunningham, Bord Gáis Energy Sports Sponsorship Manager, Ladies Gaelic Football players, managers and officials gathered  in Croke Park today to officially launch the 2012 Bord Gáis Energy Ladies National Football League.

2012 is the fourth year of Bord Gáis Energy's association with the League and the competition is going from strength to strength with stiff competition across all four divisions.

In Division 1, Cork, the 2011 NFL champions, will be looking to retain their title but Monaghan, Laois and Dublin will have their own agendas.

Division 2 is home for some of the big names in Ladies Football namely Mayo, Galway and Kerry. This should make for a very interesting competition as they will all be looking to regain Division 1 status and only 1 team gains promotion.

Westmeath and Wicklow are the ones to watch in Division 3. A very successful 2011 sees both teams entering the first competition of 2012 as All Ireland Champions at their respective grades. Both teams will definitely face tough challenges in the form of Armagh and Leitrim.

Limerick and Longford will be hoping to make a quick return to Division 3 under their new management teams of Ann Eager and Diane O'Hora the ex -Kerry and Mayo footballers respectively. Their playing experience could bring a new level of expertise to the respective camps. However Carlow and Offaly are expected to provide stiff opposition.

Pat Quill said, "The Ladies Gaelic Football Association is delighted with the continued association with Bord Gáis Energy. The National League is a hugely competitive competition with many fine games of football being produced. The Teams of the League and Manager of the Month is a fantastic addition to the National League as it recognises those who are producing top quality performances on the field and on the sideline."

Ger Cunningham said, "We at Bord Gáis Energy are thrilled to be associated once again with one of the premier Ladies Football competitions in Ireland. The work the Association does at grass roots level is of huge credit to all in the LGFA and we are delighted to be able to support this.

"Last year's National League competition made for compelling viewing, none more so than the day in Parnell Park where we had three top class finals and that is leaving aside the Division 4 final which gave us a small piece of history with a maiden Westmeath victory. No doubt 2012 will give us plenty more highlights. I wish all involved the very best for the campaign."

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association and Bord Gáis Energy are also pleased to announce the continuation of the Bord Gáis Energy Teams of the League as well as the Manager of the Month and Manager of the League awards, in conjunction with the Irish Daily Star.
