AIB SENIOR CLUB ALL IRELAND SEMI FINAL
We have a huge contest to look forward to this coming Saturday when Kilmacud Crokes take on Castleisland Desmond’s in the AIB Senior club championship All Ireland semi-final. The action gets underway at 2pm in Páirc de Burca.
Former Ireland Rugby international captain, Ciara O’Sullivan (Griffin) will be eager to inspire her club to their first All-Ireland final appearance since 1986. On that occasion the Kerry champions lost out to The Heath from Laois, who took the crown back to the midlands for a second year in a row.
Remarkably, 1986 was in fact the last time that a Kerry club claimed the Munster club title. Castleisland Desmond’s bridged a 38-year gap when they defeated Comeragh Rangers in the 2024 Munster provincial final defeating the Waterford champions 3-08 to 1-10 to set up an exciting All-Ireland semi-final meeting with Crokes.
The last Dublin team to lift the Dolores Tyrrell Memorial Cup was Ballyboden St Endas back in 2005. Since then Dublin sides Na Fianna (2011), Foxrock Cabinteely (2016, 2018) have each appeared in finals but failed in their quest to be crowned champions.
Kilmacud Crokes’ captain, Emer Sweeney will be driving her team on to go one step further having lost out in extra time to Kilkerrin Clonberne (Galway) at the semi-final stage last season.
Kilkerrin Clonberne have been the dominate force in club football having won the last three All Ireland finals, each time versus different opponents, 2021 Mourneabbey (Cork), 2022 Donaghmoyne (Monaghan) and 2023 Ballymacarby (Waterford).
Kilkerrin Clonberne take on Clann Eireann of Armagh in their semi-final on Sunday at 2.30pm in Lurgan. All six LGFA club semi-finals will be streamed live by the LGFA, for more info go to www.ladiesgaelic.ie or click this link LGFA Streaming Service
