ALL TO PLAY FOR AS KNOCK OUT FOOTBALL LOOMS …

We have a number of key fixtures taking place in the Go-Ahead Ireland club championship and shield competitions this coming Wednesday night.

Here is what is at stake for several clubs …

Go-Ahead Senior Championship Group A:

Thomas Davis  v Ballyboden St Endas , Ref: John Doherty, Venue: Kiltipper Road, 18:30; Kilmacud Crokes  v Cuala , Ref: Adam Kelly, Venue: Pairc De Burca, 20:00.

Reigning champions Kilmacud Crokes have already qualified for the semi-final in top spot with a game in hand. Cuala cannot avoid the senior championship relegation playoff even if they register a shock victory over their neighbours.

Who will join Kilmacud Crokes from this group in the knockout stages will be determined by the result of the Thomas Davis versus Ballyboden St Endas clash.  A draw will be sufficient to send Ballyboden through while Thomas Davis require a win and the three points to qualify.

Go-Ahead Senior Championship Group B:

Clontarf  v Fingallians , Ref: Gavin Donegan, Venue: St Annes No 34, 20:00; St Sylvesters  v Na Fianna , Ref: Ian Howley, Venue: Broomfield, 20:00.

In group B, three teams are currently tied on six points apiece. Na Fianna, St Sylvesters and Clontarf. Only two teams can progress to the semi-finals. With St Sylvesters and Na Fianna still reeling from last week’s shock defeats both clubs survival in the championship could come down to this game. Game on!

One thing we do know, Foxrock Cabinteely will be playing in the relegation play off even if Fingallians lose to Clontarf. The Swords club would retain their senior status for 2025 based on the head-to-head regulation having previously defeated the former champions Foxrock Cabinteely in round 3.

Go-Ahead Intermediate Championship Group A:

St Judes  v Scoil Ui Chonaill , Ref: David Murphy, Venue: Tymon North, 18:30; Clann Mhuire  v Parnells , Ref: Richie Judge, Venue: The Naul, 18:30.

St Maurs and Parnells have qualified for the semi-final from this group. Should Parnells defeat Clann Mhuire they will claim the outright number one position on the table. A defeat will see them remain level on points with St Maurs. However based on the head-to-head regulation Parnells will still secure a home semi-final having defeated the Rush based club by three points in round 2.

Elsewhere in this group, St Judes and Scoil Uí Chonaill are in a battle to avoid the relegation play off. A win for either team will secure their Intermediate status for 2025 while a draw would be sufficient for St Judes to remain at this grade.

Go-Ahead Intermediate Championship Group B:

O’Dwyer’s  v Lucan Sarsfields , Ref: Finbarr Shanahan, Venue: Bremore Park, 18:30.

Similar to the situation in Group A, O’Dwyers and Lucan Sarsfields have both qualified for the semi-final stage of the competition. The winner of this clash will go to the top of the group and will have home advantage in the semi-final. Clanna Gael Fontenoy have conceded their fixture to St Brigids confirming their place in the relegation play off.

Go-Ahead Junior A Championship Group A:

Naomh Olaf  v Ballyboden St Endas B, Ref: Ronald Malone, Venue: Pairc Ui Bhrian, 18:30; Raheny  v Man O War , Ref: Paul Meaney, Venue: St Annes No 9, 18:30.

Last season’s Junior B championship winners Naomh Olaf have booked their place in the 2024 Junior A semi-finals by topping Group A with a game in hand. Who will join them will be determined by the result of the clash between Raheny and Man O War.

Go-Ahead Junior A Championship Group B:

St Peregrines  v Naomh Barrog , Ref: Jason Buckley, Venue: Blakestown, 18:30; Templeogue Synge Street  v Kilmacud Crokes B, Ref: Ray McBride, Venue: Dolphin Park, 18:30.

The meeting of Templeogue Synge Street and Kilmacud Crokes will determine who claims top spot on the table and subsequently bags themselves a home semi-final. Meanwhile St Peregrines and Naomh Barrog will be playing for survival. A defeat for either team will see the loser contest the Junior A championship relegation playoff versus Clontarf B on September 18th.

Go-Ahead Junior B Championship semi-finals :

Erins Isle  v St Brendans , Ref: Kevin O Donnell, Venue: Finglas, 18:30; St Vincents A v Na Fianna B, Ref: Chris Nolan, Venue: Pairc Naomh Uinsionn, 18:30.

The winners of the Junior B Championship semi-finals will contest the 2024 final on Friday the 20th of September at 7.30pm at Clann Mhuire GAA club, Naul.

Go-Ahead Junior C Championship Group A:

Round Towers Lusk  v Whitehall Colmcille , Ref: PJ Murray, Venue: Lusk, 18:30; St Patricks Donabate  v Beann Eadair , Ref: Ernie Brenner, Venue: Donabate, 20:00.

St Patricks currently occupy top spot on the table their opponents Beann Eadair are in second place. We know St Patricks have qualified for the semi-final. What the result of this contest will determine is the order of the top two teams on the table and who will get a home semi-final.

Both Round Towers Lusk and Whitehall Colmcille have lost to Beann Eadair. If the Howth club loses to St Patricks they remain on six points and should Lusk or Whitehall register a win and finish up on six points, neither team can claim a semi-final berth ahead of Beann Eadir due to the head-to-head regulation.

Go-Ahead Junior C Championship Group B:

Round Tower Clondalkin  v Lucan Sarsfields B, Ref: Reg Harbron, Venue: Clondalkin, 19:30; Garda/Westmanstown Gaels  v Garristown , Ref: Mark O Shea, Venue: Jerome Twomey Park, 19:45.

St Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh have booked their place in the semi-final alongside Garda / Westmanstown Gaels. A win for the Westmanstown based club over Garristown will put them level on points with Plunketts but they will remain in second place on the table based on the head-to-head regulation. There is no automatic relegation of teams from this championship with Round Tower Clondalkin and Lucan Sarsfields affectively playing for pride.
