Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Féile Final Division 11

Ballinteer St. Johns 1-06

Fingallians 2-01

Report by Ruth King

Fingallians won the throw-in with their number 11, Shauna Gargan, seeing them off with the first attack with the slight breeze pushing her along. Fingallians had some excellent chances but weren't converting in the first few minutes, keeping the sides equal. It wasn't until the seventh minute that we saw the first score with number 17, Robyn Downes, for Fingallians, putting her team a goal ahead.

However, that didn’t stop number 16, Lily Lawlor, for Ballinteer St. Johns, as she quickly replied with a point and a goal in the tenth minute to put her team ahead. Number 15, Amy Mannion, saw her team out to halftime with another goal for the Swords side to put them two points in front going into the second half. Both teams were equal in strength leaving the question of who was going to be heading home with the Féile cup in hand.

Ballinteer came out in flying form with a free kick scored by number 19, Ruby Ryan who had been solid for the black and orange side all day. Number 15, Amy Mannion was yet again another threat as she put the ball flying over the bar putting Fingallians a bit ahead. Both set of goalkeepers, Leigha Keogh McCarthy (Fingallians) and Maeve O’Shea(Ballinteer St. Johns), where kept busy but showed great displays as to why the deserves the number one jersey, with both saving goals at opposite ends of the pitch.

However, number 16, Lily Lawlor was knocking the points over for fun. Scoring two excellent points to put the Marely Park side ahead. Number 10, Faye Berry wasn’t letting Lawlor have all the fun as she stuck another point over for Ballinteer St. Johns. However, Fingallians where not giving up but Ballinteer were not going to lose.

The match finished off with a lovely one on one chance for the Ballinteer side however, they were denied an extension to their lead by goalkeeper, Leigha Keogh McCarthy. Both sides fought till the end with amazing performances from Fingallian’s number 2, Aleksandra Rzanek who battled it out against Ballinteer star Lily Lawlor and keeper, Keogh McCarthy.
