Summary Match Report Dublin v Kildare

Leinster MFC Rd 2

Dublin 2-08 (14) Kildare 3-04 (13)

Earlier this afternoon, Dublin pulled off a late comeback against Kildare to register their first victory in the 2024 Leinster minor championship.

Siobhán Birnie was at the end of a well worked Dublin move and took her goal superbly not only to clinch victory for Dublin but to keep the Dubs championship aspirations very much alive.

Kildare had the perfect start and lead by two goals with less than five minutes gone on the clock while playing against a strong wind.

To their credit Dublin didn’t panic and chipped away at the Kildare lead. Dublin keeper Katie Moran Tighe slotted home a penalty which put Dublin ahead by 1-04 to 2-00.

Kildare responded with a third goal to retake the lead. Both sides exchanged scores and were all square at the break, Dublin 1-07 to Kildare’s 3-01.

The second half was a cagey affair with the strong wind proving difficult for both teams to contend with. In a keenly fought fourth quarter Dublin were guilty of giving away frees especially in the scoring zone. These concessions helped propel Kildare into the lead.

Deep into injury time Kildare were on track to make it two wins from two until up stepped Birnie with her goal to derail the lilywhites victory celebrations.

Next Saturday Dublin welcome Laois to the capital for their third and final group game.
