Dublin LGFA Division 2 Féile Final

TEMPLEOGUE SYNGE STREET 4-3 NAOMH OLAF 0-1

Report by Rónán MacLochlainn

Templeogue Synge Street withstood some early Naomh Olaf pressure before eventually getting on top and securing the Division 2 Féile crown at a sun-kissed O’Toole Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Balally side enjoyed plenty of possession in those early exchanges without gaining any tangible reward on the scoreboard and as the contest evolved, their opponents assumed control of matters on their way to a comfortable victory.

The direct running of the winners was a key feature of their success with none more prominent than centre-forward Hollai Quinn, who created havoc in the Naomh Olaf defence throughout.

It was Quinn that proved creator for her side’s opening score in the 5th minute as she ran from deep before slipping a pass to full-forward Aimee Dignam, whose low shot from eight yards found the back of the net.

Grace McCoy was working tirelessly in driving Naomh Olaf forward but there was little she could do to prevent Synger from adding to their lead in the 7th minute as Quinn was calmness personified in converting a penalty past the helpless Sorcha Prouver.

Templeogue continued to dominate with Connie Harte, Ella Meade and Shona King all to the fore and midfielder Aimee Broderick was another to impress with her excellent point in the 10th minute putting further daylight between the teams.

Naomh Olaf refused to drop their collective heads and they finally opened their own account towards the end of the first-half with Hannah Jennings splitting the posts after a patient move involving a number of players.

Trailing by 2-1 to 0-1 at the interval, the last thing Olaf’s needed was the concession of another goal but unfortunately, that is what materialised with Prouver once again blameless as Laoise Kelly cracked home a superb effort just under the crossbar.

With Broderick and Quinn using their pace to telling effect, this placed added pressure on the Naomh Olaf defence but they coped admirably with the likes of Anna Campbell epitomising their spirit.

However, they couldn’t stop Quinn and Kelly adding points as the half progressed and when Quinn was impeded inside the large square in the 30th minute, she picked herself up before firing the resultant penalty emphatically to the top corner to complete a superb display from Templeogue Synge Street.

Scorers – Templeogue Synge Street: H Quinn 2-1 (2-0pen), L Kelly 1-1, A Dignam 1-0, A Broderick 0-1.  Naomh Olaf: H Jennings 0-1.
