Dubs 2023 LIDL NFL Campaign comes to a end …

Dublin concluded their 2023 LIDL national football league campaign on Sunday March 26th with a convincing win over Waterford. The Dubs finished in third place on the division one table behind Kerry and Galway respectively. During the course of their campaign Dublin won five games Meath, Cork, Mayo, Donegal and Waterford and lost two, Galway and Kerry.

Table toppers, Kerry qualified for the division one league final with two rounds to spare and will play Galway for the national title in Croke Park on Saturday April 15th. Unlike in previous years there were no league semi-finals scheduled in 2023.

When Mick Bohan reviews the NFL campaign, he will be disappointed to not reach the knockout stage of the competition but will be content with his teams standing considering the turnover of players since his sides shock defeat to Donegal in the 2022 league semi-final.

Hannah Tyrrell is the Dubs leading scorer having amassed a tally of 2-22 of which 15 points have come from frees. Kate Sullivan finished in second place with a tally of 4-10 (5f) with 1-07 scored in rounds 6 and 7. Third place went to team captain Carla Rowe with 1-11 (9f).

Orlagh Nolan finished her league campaign with aplomb scoring 1-01 versus Donegal and chalking up a hat trick in their final group game against Waterford.

Thirty-eight players represented Dublin during the course of the 2023 NFL campaign with fifteen players making their Dublin senior Inter County league debuts.

Jessica Tobin, Leah Caffrey, Jennifer Dunne, Eilish O’Dowd and Caoimhe O’Connor started in all seven of Dublin’s fixtures. Vice-captain, Leah Caffrey is the only Dubliner to complete all seven games in their entirety, having started in each round and never being substituted.
