Leinster Minor B Championship Semi Final

Saturday June 25th,

FT Dublin 3-06 (15) Wexford 1-10 (13)

Dublin booked their place in the Leinster B championship final following a hard fought two point victory over Wexford this afternoon in a blustery Blanchardstown.

Dublin started spritely with midfielder, Heather Bolger keeping the scoreboard ticking along nicely with four points of which three came from converted frees.

Wexford centre forward Caoilfhionn Ni Nuallain was causing the Dublin defenders cause for concern with her constant movement, she also converted two well taken frees of her own. Hannah Kehoe and Sarah Doyle tapped on a point each to bring the sides level with 15 minutes gone on the clock.

Dublin full forward Megan McAuley got the all important opening goal of the game to push her side three points clear of the visitors as the game passed the 17th minute marker.

Both teams exchanged a number of points apiece before the key moment of the first half came when Dublin were awarded a penalty by Kildare official, Jason Corcoran.

Megan McAuley duly slotted the ball passed Wexford keeper Lauren Kehoe to give her side a five point cushion at the interval, Dublin 2-05 Wexford 0-06.

Dublin management made two half time substitutes with Annabelle Timothy and Anu Ni Mhurigheasa introduced into the game for Rooney and O’Reilly.

The home side got the perfect restart when centre forward Eabha Ni Maolagain bagged third goal of the contest to push the Dubs eight clear of their opponents.

To their credit Wexford respond instantly with a well taken point by Karen Tomkins. Four minutes into the second period, Wexford were awarded a penalty the second of the game. Up stepped Wexford substitute Tara Roche to blast the ball past Lauren Quane with an expertly taken spot kick.

Dublin found themselves having to dig deep when reduced to 14 players when Niamh Donlon was sent to the sin bin with just 11 minutes gone on the clock.

As the game headed into the final quarter, both sides where guilty of squandering a number of scoring opportunities much to the display of both set of supporters. Wexford out scored Dublin by two points to one in the closing period of the game.

As the whistle blew it was the home side who gave out a huge sigh of relief as they held on to book their place in the provincial decider on July 6th against either Longford or Laois.
