FT Dublin 6-23 Westmeath 0-04
Dublin chalked up a comfortable 37 point victory over last years Intermediate All Ireland champions Westmeath this afternoon in TEG Cusack Park, Mullingar.
Sinead Wylde gave her team the perfect start when she hit the back of the Westmeath net within 30 seconds of the game getting underway.
Playing against a strong wind, Dublin spurned a number of goal scoring opportunities before Carla Rowe bagged her sides second goal of the game in the 12th minute.
Westmeath keeper, Aoife O’Donnell was in excellent form for her side, despite what the final scoreboard might lead you to believe. The Killucan shot stopper pulled off a number of keys and important saves throughout the game. Dublin went into the half time dressing room leading by 12 points, HT Score Dublin 2-09 Westmeath 0-03.
The visitors now with the aid of the wind totally dominated the second period of the game, outscoring their opponents by 4-14 to 0-01. Kate Sullivan, Hannah Tyrrell (2) and Carla Rowe all raised the green flag adding further to Westmeaths woes.
Mick Bohan ran his bench giving precious championship game time to a number of players in the second period ahead of next Saturday’s big Parnell Park showdown against reigning All Ireland champions Meath.
Hannah Tyrell finished the game as top scorer with 2-09 while Carla Rowe also had a fine performance chalking up an impressive 2-05. Sinead Wylde in her first championship start for Dublin also had a fine display for the sky blues.
