Leinster U14 Div 1 Final

Dublin 8-07 Westmeath 3-07

Dublin U14’s lifted the division one Leinster title earlier today following an entertaining and exciting contest with Westmeath.

The midlanders got off to the perfect start when Orla Collins hit the back of the Dublin net with less than 3 minutes gone on the clock.

Dublin playing with the aid of a strong wind soon settled down and started to gain the majority of possession.

Indeed it was the Dubs who finished the opening half in the ascendancy leading by 3-04 to Westmeath’s 1-02. Ella Jenkins and Kate Keaney (2) where both on target for the blues first half goals.

On the restart it was the girls from the capital who raised their work rate an extra notch hitting Westmeath with a number of quick goals in the third quarter to push the game out of the midlanders reach.

Westmeath showed great resolve keeping the pressure on Dublin right up until the final whistle. Westmeath’s centre forward Kate Kilmurray was exceptional throughout the contest and was a constant threat for the games 60+ minutes.

Likewise her Dublin counterpart Kate Keaney showed superb form up front finishing the game as top scorer, chalking up an impressive tally of 3-02 (2f).

Dublin now turn their attention to the LGFA national U14 competition which gets underway in mid April.
