Dub’s first team announcement of 2022…

Mick Bohan has named his side for this Sunday’s opening LIDL NFL game versus Waterford in Dungarvan, (2pm in Fraher Field).

Only five members of the team who started last Septembers All Ireland final versus Meath are named for this Sundays division one clash with the Déise. Leah Caffrey, Orlagh Nolan, Martha Byrne, Jennifer Dunne and Hannah Tyrrell remain in the Dublin starting 15 while Niamh Collins, Lyndsey Davey, Carla Rowe, Niamh Hetherton and Siobhan Killeen are listed amongst the Dublin replacements.

On the cards to make their NFL and indeed senior County debuts are Jess Tobin (Cuala) and Kate McDaid (Kilmacud Crokes). Other newcomers included in the Dublin panel for the opening game of the season are Ellen Gribben (St Brigid’s), Orla Martin (Na Fianna) and Grainne O’Driscoll (Cuala) all three had previously represented Dublin at minor and underage levels.

While making a welcome return to the Dublin senior set up are Emer Ni Eafa (Fingallians) and Natalia Hyland (Ballyboden St Endas). Ni Eafa is an All-Ireland winner from 2017 while Hyland last donned the sky-blue jersey back in 2014 lining out at full forward in the All-Ireland final the same year versus Cork before moving overseas.

The last league encounter between the two sides was played in Parnell Park on the 23rd of May 2021 with the home team chalking up a comfortable 6-15 to 2-11 victory. Waterford and Dublin meet again later the same season in the TG4 senior championship. While Dublin ran out comfortable winners by 6-12 (30) to 1-10 (13) the score line was somewhat deceiving as a dogged Waterford outfit made Dublin work hard for their victory in sweltering conditions.

One thing we do know for sure is that the heat will not be a factor this coming Sunday!
