Dunboyne 2-11 (17)

Foxrock Cabinteely’s six year reign as Leinster champions has come to an end this afternoon in Kinnegad.

Leading at the interval by four points the Dublin champions where slow to find their second half rhythm and as a consequence conceded 1-05 to the Meath champions Dunboyne all in the third quarter. Dunboyne’s opening goal of the game was scored by team captain, Fiona O’Neill.

Foxrock Cabinteely were dealt a blow when Niamh Collins did not return  after the half time break having struggled with a wrist injury picked up early in the game, she was replaced by Ciara Murphy.

Foxrock also played the majority of the third quarter with 14 players with Sinead Loughran sin binned by Wicklow referee John Birmingham for a clumsy tackle after losing possession. The aforementioned Collins had also picked up a yellow card in 12th minute of the game.

Substitute Hannah O’Neill pulled back a goal just before the second half water break to leave a single point between the team going into the final quarter of this pulsating game.

The final period of this game was exciting and dramatic with both teams giving their all in pursuit of provincial glory.

With Foxrock chasing the game they received amother hammer blow when Shelly Melia hit the back of the net following a quickly taken free by Vickie Wall.

To their credit Foxrock Cabinteely chased down the Dunboyne lead bringing the gap back to a single score with Jodi Egan tapping on three late frees.

Time and lady luck were not on the Dublin champions side today. As the final whistle sounded it was the Dunboyne supporters who cheered the loudest and celebrated another victory over their near neighbours.
