Aherne to Captain Dubs for 5th year in row ...

With Inter County action set to resume this coming weekend Dublin management have made the welcoming announcement that Sinead Aherne is set to captain Dublin for the fifth consecutive year.

The five times All Ireland winner and seven times All Star will be representing Dublin for a remarkable 18th season. Sinead Aherne during the course of her Inter County career has given unbelievable service to Dublin and indeed Gaelic football having first made her debut back in 2003.

Over the course of her Inter County career Aherne has remarkably just missed one season with Dublin, in 2015 she took time away from football and travelled overseas.

The St Sylvester’s stalwart holds an amazing tally of 13 Leinster Senior medals and was the TG4 Players’ Player of the Year in 2018. Although somewhat hampered by injury in 2020 Sinead Aherne still made a significant contribution to Dublin’s scoring tally, notching up an impressive 1-14 in Dublin’s four championship outings.

Niamh Collins (Foxrock Cabinteely) has been named as Dublin vice-captain for the 2021 season and will be lining out for her 10th season having made her County debut back in 2012. Collins has long been recognised as one of the top defenders in the ladies game and a recognised leader on the field of play. The Dublin full back has four senior All Ireland medals, one All Star award and eight Leinster titles to her name.

Dublin play Waterford this Sunday May 23rd in the opening round of the LIDL NFL. The action gets underway in Parnell Park at 2pm. Dublin LGFA will have LIVE score updates available on their Twitter page and usual social media channels.
