DUBLIN DNA … Dublin quartet Leah Caffrey, Lauren Magee, Niamh Hetherton and Sarah McCaffrey, all hail from sporting families and each share a common thread of having famous GAA parents who too have enjoyed tremendous success in the famous sky-blue jersey.

John Caffrey won an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medal with Dublin in 1983 the team became famously known as the “12 Apostles” having lost Brian Mullins, Ray Hazley and Kieran Duff to red cards in the All Ireland final encounter with Galway. John’s brother Paul Caffrey managed Dublin from 2004 to 2008.

Jonny Magee made his Inter County debut in 1997 and played senior football for Dublin up until 2007.  Magee enjoyed plenty of success with his club Kilmacud Crokes, winning four Dublin Championship titles, three Leinster titles and one All-Ireland club title.

Ciaran Hetherton is a former Dublin senior hurler who has played a key role on numerous Dublin hurling management teams over years including the 2013 team that won the senior Leinster title under Anthony Daly.

Not to be outdone, Niamh’s Mum, Patsy Murphy was a central figure on the Dublin Ladies football team that won the Junior All Ireland title back in 1989. She has played a major role in the promotion of Camogie within her club, St Vincent’s.

Patsy was rewarded for her services to the sport when she received the Síghle Nic an Ultaigh Distinguished Service Award back in 2017. The Hetherton clan can also be proud of the exposits of John, older brother of Niamh who was part of the Dublin senior hurling panel under Matt Kenny this season.

Noel McCaffrey was a member of the Dublin senior panel in the late 1980’s. McCaffrey was the winner of the centre half back GAA All -Star award on the 1988 team alongside fellow Dub’s Mick Kennedy and Kieran Duff.

A Doctor by profession Noel was part of numerous Dublin management teams over the years and a key mentor within his club, Clontarf.

What can we say about the exploits of Sarah’s brother Jack, who has won five Celtic Crosses, six Leinster medals, four National League titles, two All-Ireland U21 crowns, four All-Stars, Footballer of the Year and Young Footballer of the Year awards!
