Dubs make two changes for clash with Waterford …

Dublin management have made two changes in personnel to their starting line-up for this Saturdays (Nov 7th) second round senior championship clash with Waterford. Along with the two changes to the starting 15, there are several positional switches as Dublin aspire to secure their place in the knockout stages of the 2020 TG4 championship.

Dublin’s two changes are, Orlagh Nolan who had an outstanding campaign for her club Ballinteer St Johns in the Dublin championship, comes into the Dublin defence at corner back. Up front, Caoimhe O’Connor gets the starting nod at corner forward having come on as a second half substitute in last Saturday’s victory over Donegal.

Two times All-Star, Leah Caffrey will hold down the Dublin defence from centre back with Lauren Magee relocating to wing half back. Magee’s Melbourne WAFL teammate, Niamh McEvoy will form a new midfield partnership with last week’s TG4 player of the match, Jennifer Dunne. The evergreen Lyndsey Davey moves to her favoured centre half forward position while team captain, Sinead Aherne takes up residence on the edge of the square flanked by Clontarf duo Sarah McCaffrey and Caoimhe O’Connor.

Dropping out of the match day squad are duo Sinead Goldrick and Siobhan McGrath but the big news from the training ground is the return of Dublin supporters’ favourite, Nicole Owens. Owens makes a welcome return to the match day 30 having been unavailable for selection for well over 12 months with a serious knee injury.

These two Counties last met in championship fare during the 2019 group stages. Dublin defeated the Déise County with a winning margin of 18 points. But as we all witnessed last weekend in Cavan the 2020 “Winter” championship can throw up numerous challenges for players and management alike. Dublin will go into this game prepared, well-guarded and respectful of the challenge posed by Waterford.

Saturday’s latest encounter between the two Counties will be shown via a LIVE stream on the LGFA Facebook page with the throw in time pencilled down for 1pm.  At stake for Dublin is a place in the All-Ireland semi final on the 28th of November next, in Thurles.
