Strong Dublin team named for opening championship clash with Donegal …


Dublin have named their starting 15 for this coming Saturday’s first round TG4 senior championship clash with Donegal in Kingspan Breffni Park, Cavan.  Twelve of the players selected for this opening round fixture began the 2019 All Ireland final versus Galway.  The three changes are, Leah Caffrey comes into the side for the injured Eabha Rutledge at corner back. In attack Sarah McCaffrey starts ahead of Hannah O’Neill at corner forward.  While 2019 All Star defender, Olwen Carey has omitted off the panel for this season due to work commitments. 


O’Neill missed the majority of Foxrock Cabinteely club championship campaign with injury but has recovered sufficiently to be named amongst the Dublin replacements for Saturday’s eagerly awaited contest with the O'Donnell County.


Looking down through the Dublin bench, a number of players are to be applauded for battling back from serious injury to be chosen amongst the Dublin subs. Siobhan Killeen, Deirdre Murphy and former minor Player of the Year, Hannah Leahy to name just a few.


Other injury updates, Nicole Owens is not far away from full fitness while the fore mentioned Eabha Rutledge is expected to be available for consideration for Dublin’s fixture against Waterford on November 7th next at 1pm in Baltinglass GAA club, Wicklow. This second round TG4 championship tie will be streamed LIVE by the LGFA on their social media platforms.


Returning our focus to this weekend’s clash, it’s been four years since the two Counties meet in the TG4 championship. On that occasion (13th August 2016) Dublin saw off a strong Donegal challenge on the scoreline of 1-13 (16) to 2-07 (13). Dublin captain, Sinead Aherne was her sides leading scorer with 1-06 (3f) followed by Carla Rowe 0-03, Niamh McEvoy 0-02, Siobhan Woods and Lyndsey Davey with 0-01 each.


Owing to COVID-19 restriction this game will be played behind closed doors however you can catch all the action LIVE on TG4 with coverage beginning at 4.45pm, throw in time 5pm.
