Cork name team for Croke Park clash with Dublin
Reigning LIDL NFL champions Cork have announced their starting line-up for this Saturday’s eagerly awaited clash with Dublin in Croke Park. Cork manager Ephie Fitzgerald has stayed faithful to his selection by naming the same starting 15 that began last Sunday versus Tipperary.
Ephie Fitzgerald’s side have enjoyed a perfect start to their 2020 NFL campaign with an impressive performance and a comfortable 8 point win over Tipperary in round 2 while accounting for Westmeath the week previous with a 1-09 to 0-06 victory.
Orla Finn has been in good form for Cork with the Kinsale forward bagging an impressive 11 points (7f) in two league outings to date while Aine O’Sullivan was the star performer last week versus Tipperary scoring 2-01 from play.
A couple of newcomers to the Cork side to keep an eye on are (4) Sarah Leahy and (5) Laura O’Mahony who both would have featured strongly for Cork Minors during their 2017 and 2018 championship campaigns while (11) Laura Cleary, daughter of former Cork GAA great John Cleary will be hoping to impress against Dublin with a view to nailing a regular spot in a strong Cork forward line.
Doheny footballer, (6) Melissa Duggan is an current All Star defender who has electrifying pace and can be a huge danger if allowed switch into attacking mode. Full forward (14) Saoirse Noonan is a natural goal poacher and if given time on the ball could cause problems for the Dublin back line.
In a change to previous competition structures there will be no semi-finals played in 2020. Instead the top two teams will contest the final so Saturday’s encounter h as an extra edge with Dublin down 2 points has drawn with Tipperary in round one.
Dublin will announce their team at 12:30 lunchtime on Friday.
