DUBLIN TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT
LIDL NFL Div 1 Rd 1
Sunday January 26th, 2pm
Dublin v Tipperary
Pairc Uí Mhurchú
Dublin boss Mick Bohan has named his squad for this Sunday’s opening round of the LIDL national football league. Returning to Dublin colours in 2020 are Leah Caffrey, Laura McGinley and Sarah McCaffrey all of whom took some time away from the County scene to travel overseas. All three are named to start on Sunday team versus Tipperary.
Also making a welcome return is Rebecca McDonnell who had been absent from the Inter County scene for some time owing to a serious knee injury. McDonnell returned to play club football last season she then subsequently played a pivotal role for Clanna Gael Fontenoy when they captured the Dublin Intermediate championship title in September.
Up front, Laura Kane and Niamh Sweeney have both been handed their NFL debuts and an opportunity to impress the Dublin selectors especially with key forwards such as Sinead Aherne, Nicole Owens, Noelle Healy and Lyndsey Davey currently unavailable for selection. Dublin’s bench also contains a number of players from the 2019 Dublin minor squad who no doubt will be looking to make their mark at senior level during the league.
Experienced duo Niamh McEvoy and Sinead Goldrick are currently away in Australia having signed up to play for Melbourne this season in the AFLW. Similarly Tipperary are also without two talented footballers with Aisling McCarthy (Western Bulldogs) and Orla O’Dwyer (Brisbane Lions) also contracted to play the Australian game.
However Tipperary boss, Shane Ronayne has still named an experience team for Sunday's clash with Dublin. Tipperary will provide a stern test for the home team in what should be a lively contest. Key players for the premier County and ones to watch are Aishling Moloney, Samantha Lambert and Caoimhe Condon to name but a few.
Jonathan Murphy from Carlow is in charge of Sunday’s game and will get proceedings underway at 2pm. The fixture will be streamed LIVE on the LGFA Facebook page commencing at 1.45pm
