TG4 Leinster Senior Final

Sunday June 30th, 4pm

Dublin v Westmeath

Netwatch Cullen Park

Defending All Ireland and Leinster champions Dublin, have announced their squad for this Sunday’s provincial decider versus Westmeath. In total Mick Bohan has made 4 changes to his starting 15 from that which lost out to Cork in extra time some 10 weeks ago in the LIDL NFL semi-final.

Returning to the staring 15 are Sinead Goldrick, Lauren Magee and Siobhan McGrath. The 4th change to the line out is Clontarf’s Niamh Hetherton who will make her championship debut at full forward. Eabha Rutledge and Lyndsey Davey move down to the bench while former All Stars, Carla Rowe and Sinead Finnegan who both featured in the defeat versus Cork back in April are not included in Bohan’s match day 30.

Dublin had to play without the services of Goldrick and McGrath against Cork on Easter Sunday owing to injury. Both players who have a wealth of experience in the Sky blue jersey will be welcome additions to the Dublin line out as the Dub’s seek to keep their championship unbeaten run intact. Indeed, Dublin’s last championship defeat came back in 2016 when they lost to Cork in the All -Ireland final by the narrowest of margins, since then Dublin have chalked up an 11 match winning streak.

This is the fifth year in a row that Dublin and Westmeath will contest the Leinster final as the province currently only has two senior ranked Counties.

When the two sides meet earlier in the NFL, Westmeath reduced the scoring deficit between the sides to just 5 points a fact that will bolster the midland County’s confidence ahead of this weekend’s championship encounter.  Westmeath under new manager, Sean Finnegan had a good division 1 league campaign experiencing a number of competitive outings while recording two excellent victories over Monaghan and Tipperary to retain their top flight status.

Sunday’s final has all the makings of entertaining contest with a big crowd expected to make the trip to Carlow for the triple bill as Carlow and Louth contest the Junior final at noon followed by Wexford and Meath in the Intermediate final at 2pm with the senior final getting underway at 4pm.
