All Ireland Club Senior Semi-final -

Sunday November 18th, 1pm

Foxrock Cabinteely v Donaghmoyne

Venue: Bray Emmets GAA Club

This weekend, Dublin senior club champions Foxrock Cabinteely will endeavour to book their place in the 2018 All Ireland final having lost out to Mourneabbey (Cork) at the semi-final hurdle last year.

The Cork champions held off the challenge presented by Foxrock Cabinteely to run out eventual winners on the score line of 4-05 (17) to 0-15 to set up an All -Ireland final meeting with ensuing champions, Carnacon.

Foxrock Cabinteely will take on Donaghmoyne (Monaghan) this Sunday November 18th at 1pm in Bray Emmets GAA club. Their home pitch in Kilbogget Park has no enclosed pitch and was deemed an unsuitable venue to host the All Ireland semi-final by LGFA officials hence the move down the road to neighbouring club, Bray Emmets.

Foxrock Cabinteely and Ulster champions, Donaghmoyne have meet on two previous occasions in the All Ireland club series. Back in 2015 the sides meet in the All Ireland semi-final with Donaghmoyne overcoming their Dublin rivals on a score line of 1-08 (11) to 0-07.

The following season the clubs meet for the second year in a row this time in the final, once again it was Donaghmoyne who came out on top with a 2-09 (15) to 0-08 victory over the Dublin champions.

Nine of the Foxrock Cabinteely team which started in this year’s Leinster final featured on the starting line up in the 2016 All Ireland decider versus Donaghmoyne. Those nine players are Emma McDonagh, Niamh Collins, Sinead Goldrick, Ciara Ni Mhurchadh, Lorna Fusciardi, Laura Nerney, Amy Ring, Fiona Claffey and Amy Connolly.

Without question the Dublin champion’s senior panel has seen an injection of youth this season with footballers like Jodi Egan, Lisa Davies, and Faye O’Connell bell to name but a few (who also featured on the Dublin minor team) coming though the club underage system into their senior ranks.

While Ireland U17 soccer international Roisin McGovern made her presence felt in her side’s victory over Sarsfields (Laois) in the Leinster final, scoring 2-01 off the bench.

Another edition to the Foxrock Cabinteely panel in 2018 has been goalkeeper, Aisling Tarpey the Mayo Inter County panellist in her first season with her new club has been in superb form since returning to competitive football having overcome a serious knee injury.

Pat Ring and Peter Clarke along with their management team have without question assembled together a serious panel of footballers who have enjoyed a comprehensive run to date in both their County and Provincial championship campaigns. Foxrock Cabinteely played six championship fixtures up to and including the final versus St Brigids to claim the Dublin title for a fourth year in a row.

During their domestic outings they notched up an impressive 11-95 (128) while conceding 7-47 (68). They amassed a combined tally of 8-27 (51) in their two Leinster outings versus Sarsfields and Simonstown (Meath) respectively while just conceding 1-13 (16).

Monaghan champions, Donaghmoyne are a formidable outfit with numerous household names amongst their ranks including footballers such as Linda Martin, Sharon Courtney along with her sisters Cora and Rosemary plus renowned sharp shooter, Cathriona McConnell.

Former Monaghan star, McConnell hit nine points in Donaghmoyne’ s impressive 1-15 to 1-08 victory over Glenfin (Donegal) in the Ulster final, with Eimear Traynor bagging the all-important goal.

Sunday’s semi-final has all the makings of thrilling encounter between two evenly matched teams with the winner going on to contest the All Ireland final on December 8th versus either Kilkerrin/Clonberne (Galway) or Mourneabbey (Cork).

The last and indeed only Dublin club to lift the Dolores Tyrell cup was Ballyboden St Endas; the Firhouse club accomplished the double when defeating Donoughmore (Cork) in 2004 and Donaghmoyne in 2005.

Since then Dublin clubs have sadly not enjoyed much success in finals, as stated previously Foxrock Cabinteely lost the 2016 final to Donaghmoyne, previously Na Fianna lost to Carnacon (Mayo) in the 2011 decider while Ballyboden St Endas (2001) and Portobello (1998) both tasted defeat at the hands of Donoughmore and Ballymacabry (Waterford) respectively.

The action gets underway in Bray on Sunday at 1pm, Jonathan Murphy from Carlow will be the official in charge of proceedings.
