Foxrock Cabinteely 4-16

Simonstown 0-05

Dublin and current Leinster club champions Foxrock Cabinteely brushed aside the challenge of Meath side Simonstown this afternoon in the semi final of the Leinster Senior Ladies Football Club championship.

Foxrock are chasing a fourth Leinster Senior title in a row and four goals, two from Hannah O’Neill and one each from Amy Ring and Fiona Claffey kept that dream alive.

The opening minutes were evenly contested and there was certainly plenty of bite in the early tackles from both sides.

Foxrock took the lead in the 6th minute with a point from Amy Connolly. Seconds later Sinead Goldrick added a second as the Dublin side began to flex their muscles.

Although Simonstown were enjoying their far share of possession they found the well drilled and tenacious Foxrock defence a difficult obstacle to circumvent.

The Meath side were awarded a free in the 13th minute which was dispatched by Kelly Harris but that was as good as it got for Simonstown for the rest of the half as Foxrock dominated till the half time break.

An Amy Ring converted free started a scoring spree for Foxrock. Another point from Sinéad Goldrick was quickly followed by the games opening goal scored by Fiona Claffey.

The impressive Hannah O’Neill added two quick points in the space of a minute and further points from Amy Connolly and two from Amy Ring Gabe the Dublin side an eleven point advantage at the break with the score 1-09 to 0-01.

Foxrock started the second half as they had finished the first with another scoring blitz as Simonstown struggled to contain Cabinteely’s running game and off the shoulder support play.

Two minutes into the second period and Hannah O’Neill finished off a sweeping team move to the back of the net.

By the 42nd minute Foxrock had added another four points to their total, two from Amy Connolly one from a free and one from open play and one each from Sinead Goldrick with her third of the game and Tarah O’Sullivan.

The game was as good as over at this stage, but to their credit the Simonstown players never let their heads drop and the battled gamely to the end.

They scored their second point of the game in the 44th minute with a nice score from Kelsey Nesbitt.

But Foxrock were relentless and continually drove at the Simonstown backline. Points from Connolly and Claffey extended the lead and with eleven minutes remaining Foxrock captain Amy Ring cut through the Meath sides defence and Cooley finished to the net.

Second half substitute Laurie Aherne got in on the act with eight minutes of normal time remaining with a fine point.

In the 56th minute Foxrock cornerback Aedin Murray was sin binned and Jackie Shields converted the resultant free. The same player swept over an excellent point from play a minute later for her sides fourth point of the game.

Foxrock won the resultant kick out and moved the ball at pace down the other end of the pitch and Hannah O’Neill grabbed her second goal of the game.

A free in the final minute for Simonstown converted by Niamh Cassidy finished off the scoring in the game with the final whistle blowing shortly afterwards and Foxrock comfortably securing their Leinster Senior club championship final place with a 23 point victory.

Foxrock Cabinteely will face Laois champions Sarsfields Mountmellick In the Leinster Senior Club Championship Final on the 4th of November in Kinnegad at 2:30pm
