Castleknock v Lucan Sarsfields

First up on our championship double bill this evening in Swords is the much awaited contest between Castleknock and Lucan Sarsfields. Both teams have endured championship heartbreak in recent times with Lucan losing out to Cuala in last year’s decider which incidentally was played at the same venue while Castleknock tasted defeated the previous year at the hands of St Maurs losing out by a single point.

Later that autumn, the girls from Rush subsequently went on to win the Junior All Ireland crown defeating Kinsale of Cork in a pulsating final.

So spurred on by defeat both Lucan Sarsfields and Castleknock will come into this evening’s final well prepared having enjoyed good championship campaigns. They will also be familiar which each other as both clubs competed in the same group during the round robin stage. At the end of the league series it was Lucan Sarsfields who took poll position at the top of the championship table in group A determined by score difference as the two clubs had finished level on 9 points apiece.

Castleknock had a tough encounter with their neighbours Garda / Westmanstown Gaels in the semi-final with just two points separating the teams on the final whistle. FT score, Garda / Westmanstown Gaels 2-11 (17) Castleknock 1-16 (19)

A place in the Leinster championship awaits the winners of tonight’s contest with both clubs gaining promotion to Intermediate football in 2019.

Likewise Lucan Sarsfields had a tough battle in their semi-final which required a second half comeback from the Lucan girls to see off the challenge from Naomh Barrog, again just two points separating the sides at full time. FT score Lucan Sarsfields 1-11(14) Naomh Barrog 1-09 (12)
