Eugene Egan Tournament 2018

Another hugely successful Eugene Egan memorial tournament took place on Sunday last in Naomh Mearnog and St Sylvesters GAA clubs. Over 200 girls from Dublin, Cork, Kildare, Monaghan, Tipperary and Antrim showcased their football skills in front of a huge crowd of supporters with parents, family and friends from all six Counties treated to some excellent football.

From the outset, it was apparent that the standard of football on display was going to be of an exceptionally high standard, a testament to the high quality of coaching being carried out by the clubs at grass roots level throughout the respective six participating counties.

Cork were participating in the tournament for the first time and they let their presence be known as the Cork “white” team trail blazed their way through the competition. Cork ran out worthy winners defeating a very talented Antrim side in the final on the score line of 2-10 to 1-02.

In the shield final it was an all Dublin affair as both Dublin teams qualified for the plate final following victories over Tipperary and Monaghan in their respective semi-finals.

At the final whistle it was Dublin “Blue” who ran out winners over their counterparts on the score line of 2-04 to 1-03.

Elizabeth Egan, wife of Eugene was on hand to present medals to all the competing teams along with the cup and shield to the winning captains of Cork and Dublin.
