Intermediate Final 2017

Clontarf v St Maur’s

Venue: Lawless Memorial Park, Swords – 8:30pm


The 2017 Intermediate championship final has all the makings of a classic game of football between two experience sides although Clontarf defeated St Maurs comfortably in the opening round of the competition tomorrows encounter will be a much closer affair.  


Clontarf are endeavouring to win the Intermediate title having lost out in two previous County finals. St Maur’s will look to build upon their success story of 2016 by capturing their second County title in a row.


Clontarf have a nice blend of youth and experience amongst their ranks, team manager Mick Cronin will be hoping that his chargers reproduce the form that they have shown to date throughout the championship. Clontarf topped the group at the round robin stage going onto defeat Clann Mhuire in the semi-final with an impressive 3-18 to 2-05 victory.


Last season, Clontarf had to endure championship heartbreak for a second year in a row while their Friday night opponents St Maurs where experiencing untold championship success. The Rush club had a season one could only dream about winning County, provincial and All Ireland junior titles.


St Maur’s Intermediate campaign got off to a rocky start with a 6-17 t 2-15 loss to Clontarf but they recovered well and went on to defeat Skerries Harps in the semi-final on a score line of 1-14 to 0-07.


Clontarf will be looking for top performances from key players such as Sarah Fagan, Katie Murray, Sarah McCaffrey and former rugby international Fiona Coughlan.


St Maurs will be looking to Eadaoin McGuinness, Olivia Leonard, Jessica Kelly and Laura Carthy to hit top form on Friday night.


Junior Final 2017

Cuala v’s Lucan Sarsfields

Venue: Lawless Memorial Park, Swords – 7pm

 

The football action will get underway in Swords at 7pm with the meeting of Cuala and Lucan Sarsfields in the Junior championship final.


Lucan Sarsfields are appearing in their third Junior championship final having won the title back in 2002 but going on to taste defeat at the hands of Thomas Davis in 2012. While their opponents Cuala are appearing in their first Junior championship final.


Cuala have been the top team throughout the Junior championship campaign and come into Friday’s final with an unbeaten record. Six championship games played and six victories recorded. Their semi-final 2-16 to 0-05 win over Castleknock was quite impressive as their opponents had been defeated by the narrowest of margins in the 2016 final by St Maurs.


Lucan Sarsfields only defeat in the championship run was their opening game to Cuala they had a close battle with Naomh Barrog in the semi-final coming out on top in the end on a score line of 1-07 to 0-08.


Martha Byrne, Hannah O’Dea, Eimear Loughlin and Jennifer Dunne are key players for Cuala with all four been in impressive form throughout the championship for the Dalkey based club.


Lucan Sarsfields will be looking to Patricia Gordan, Orlaith McKelvey, Sabrina Moloney and Laura Quinn to inspire them onto a second championship title and in doing so bridge a 15 year gap for the West Dublin club.
