New Ireland Assurance Junior and Intermediate club championship finals take place this Friday night, Sept 1st in Lawless Memorial Park, home of Fingallians GAA club.

At 7pm, Cuala take on Lucan Sarsfields in the Junior final while at 8.30pm St Maurs face Clontarf in the Intermediate final.

Ahead of Friday night's two big games we asked the team captains some questions - up first is Shauna McGuinness, captain of St Maur’s

Q: How did you come to play Gaelic football?

A: My mother was encouraged by a prominent member of the club, Leo Bissett, to bring my older sister to join St Maur’s GAA. Since then, Gaelic has been an integral part of my family’s life. Once I turned age I was brought up to train.

Q: Who has influenced you the most during your club career?

A: My Grandad Nick McGuinness has been my biggest influence. His passion for the Gaelic game was contagious. Making him proud has been a huge drive in my club career, even to this day

Q: What has been the best and the worst moments of your club career so far?

A: Worst moment of my football career would have been losing to Skerries in the Junior A Championship Final in 2015.

Best moment was becoming All Ireland Junior Champions in 2016 and the celebrations that followed.

Q: Who was your sports hero growing up?

A: Ciaran Whelan

Q: Who was the toughest opponent you ever faced?

A: Lyndsey Davey

Q: What sporting event in the world would you love to attend?

A: The Olympics

Q: Which sports do you like watching apart from Gaelic Games, of course?

A: AFL & Tennis

Q: With the club championship now at the final stage, what is your club training schedule like?

A: Our preparation hasn’t changed. We are training twice a week and playing challenge matches when we can.

Q: If you could change one rule in Ladies football, what would it be?

A: Yellow card sin bin

Q: If there was a transfer market in Ladies football, which player would you like your club to sign up and why?

A: Lyndsey Davey – then I wouldn’t have to play against her.

Q: What more would you like to see being done to promote women in sport, both at club and County level?

A: Same financial investment in women’s teams as there is for the mens.
