TG4 Leinster Senior Football Championship Rd 2

Sunday June 19th, 2pm

Dublin v Westmeath

Cusack Park, Mullingar

As you were for the Dubs –

Dublin management have kept faith with the same starting 15 which began last Sunday’s opening Leinster senior championship tie versus Laois.

Lauren Magee remains at midfield after receiving a late call up for the Laois game replacing club mate Molly Lamb who was unable to field due to illness. Lamb is listed amongst the replacements for this Sunday’s clash with Westmeath.

Dublin’s defence was in superb form last weekend only conceding 2 points from play to Laois while upfront the blues full forward line of Siobhan Woods, Sinead Aherne and Lyndsey Davey bagged 1-12 of their side’s total tally of 3-15. Dublin’s other two goals coming from substitute Ciara Ruddy.

Reigning champions Dublin have this season gathered an impressive championship squad with six of last September’s All Ireland final starters named on the bench for Sunday’s clash with the LIDL div 2 runners up, Westmeath.

Westmeath too enjoyed an impressive victory last weekend as the mid-land County saw off the challenge of Meath on a score line of 5-21 to 2-14.

Ironically two of the Westmeath stalwarts play their club football here in the capital. Fiona Claffey (Foxrock Cabinteely) and Laura Walsh (Na Fianna) will be very familiar with a number of the Dublin players making Sunday’s clash all that more interesting.

Indeed the Dublin connection doesn’t stop there as Westmeath manager Niall Williams was a member of the Na Fianna management team who captured the Dublin SFC title back in 2014 while fellow selector Nadine Doherty is also a former player with the Glasnevin club.

Apart from Claffey and Walsh other Westmeath players to keep an eye on this Sunday are team captain Jennie Rogers and midfielder Maude Ann Foley both of whom are key players for the Midland County.

Meath official Colm McManus is the man in charge of Sunday’s clash with the action getting underway at 2pm in Cusack Park, Mullingar.

Dublin LGFA will have LIVE score updates available via their Twitter page @dublinladiesg
