New Ireland Assurance Dublin LGFA Club Championship 2016
Dublin LGFA is delighted to welcome on board New Ireland Assurance as sponsor of our adult club championships. Further details of this new and exciting sponsorship partnership will be announced soon.
For the moment our main focus is on the contest to find the top club team in Dublin as the 2016 club championship gets underway tomorrow evening (May 11th) with the opening group fixtures in the Senior, Intermediate, Junior to Junior C competitions.
New Ireland Assurance Senior Club Championship:
Ballyboden St Endas v Na Fianna
Venue: Pairc UÃ Murchu, 7.30pm
Both clubs are former County champions with Na Fianna last winning the title back in 2014. However since then the Glasnevin club have gone through a transformation with a number of key experienced players opting to retire. Ballyboden St Endas at home should prevail in this encounter with Jenny Flaherty, Ciara Ruddy and Simone OâReilly showing good form of late for the Firhouse club.
Verdict: Ballyboden St Endas
Fingallians v Thomas Davis
Venue: Lawless Park, 7.30pm
Once again home advantage could prove to be critical in this senior championship clash. Fingallians will be looking for strong performances from Sinead Finnegan, Emer NÃ Eafa, Fiona Hudson and Amy McGuinness in order to bag three valuable championship points. Thomas Davis are an emerging side with some wonderful young footballers amongst their ranks, Jade Sweeney Knott, Olwen Carey, Ciara McGuigan and Sinead Deegan will test this Fingallians side to the limit.
Verdict: Fingallians
Foxrock Cabinteely v St Brigids
Venue: Kilboggett Park, 7.30pm
The tie of the opening round without question will be the repeat of the 2015 County final between reigning champions Foxrock Cabinteely and St Brigids. Foxrock Cabinteely once again has amassed a strong squad which combines blend of experience with youth. Sinead Goldrick, Amy Connolly, Niamh Collins along with Fiona Claffey will anchor the team which is managed once again by Peter Clark. St Brigids will look to Dublin captain Noelle Healy for inspiration while Colleen Barrett, Deirdre Murphy, Ciara Trant and Leah Mullins have the necessary attributes to cause problems.
Verdict: Foxrock Cabinteely
St Sylvesterâs v Parnells
Venue: Broomfield, 7.30pm
Another interesting tussle which pits the experience of St Sylvesterâs versus the youthfulness of Parnells. Parnells contest their first senior championship game tomorrow evening having won the Intermediate title last season. Key players for the Nells will be Vicki Ronning, Siabh Hannigan, Ciara Walsh and the ever lively Sinead Comerford. St Sylvesterâs trump card will be performances of Dublin trio Sinead Aherne, Niamh McEvoy and Nicole Owens the consensus is that Parnells defence may find this trio just too much of a handful to contain.
Verdict: St Sylvesterâs
