2010 Dublin Ladies Senior Championship

Ballyboden St Endas 3-13 Vs Fingallians 1-05

Fingallians are the new kids on the block and this is their first Senior Championship Final outing to Parnell Park. In contrast, their opponents Ballyboden St Enda’s are back for their 11th appearance having taken a rest last year.  Fingallians saw off challenges from last year’s champions, Na Fianna [who in turn forced a replay with ‘Boden] and also against last years Intermediate Champions, St Brigids where the final score was just a point apart. Ballyboden sailed through their games comfortably, except the Na Fianna tie, but put the replay to bed with a three point margin scored at the end of that fixture.

And so the stage was set. Ballyboden were in possession from the throw-in and Ciara Ruddy sent over the first point. The ‘Boden girls had complete dominance of the field putting in a goal from Natalia Hyland in the 6th minute. It continued that way and although the Fingallians side did sparkle at times, they were easily contained by the experience of the ‘Boden outfit. The Ballyboden second goal came from Gemma Fay in the 19th minute. Fingallians did break through then and were unfortunate not to convert some of their attempts. But their two points in the half did come at this time and they faced into the second half with a serious comeback challenge on their hands.

Fingallians opened the second act with Vicky Browne and Kathryn Fahy on the pitch. They whipped the ball up the field and set up a goal for Niamh Duggan which the ‘Boden keeper, Alice Gillen had no chance of stopping. When Teresa Molahan slotted in a reply goal in minute four, the game reverted to the steady dominance of the field by the ‘Boden girls witnessed in the first half.  Ballyboden might have had another goal when Breda Morrissey made a fine save which rebounded and she had to do it all over again. That was all in the last quarter and the notes record no activity near the ‘Boden sticks in that period either. It finished 3-13 to 1-05 and the Michael Murphy Cup went back to the southside.
