Eugene Egan Memorial Tournament 2019

On Saturday August 17th hosts Dublin welcome Antrim, Cork, Kildare and Wexford to the Capital for the 2019 Eugene Egan Memorial tournament. The inaugural tournament took place back in 2017 and since then the event has grown in stature becoming a highlight occasion on our fixture calendar.

The tournament is organised in memory of our former County Secretary, Eugene Egan who passed away following a brave battle with illness in February of 2014.

During his term as County Secretary, Eugene oversaw the transformation and development of the County Board at a time when Dublin was going through a period of rapid growth. He put in place many structures, rules and regulations that we still go by today.

Eugene was a larger than life character who was well respected by all involved in Dublin for his diplomacy, knowledge of the rules, and of course his love of Gaelic football. We are honoured to have his wife Elizabeth and family members with us tomorrow for the presentations.

Group Fixtures: (10am) Cork v Dublin, Antrim v Baile Átha Cliath, (11am) Cork v Wexford, Antrim v Kildare, (12 noon) Wexford v Dublin and Kildare v Baile Átha Cliath. All games are 15 minutes a half. The Plate final will be at 1.30pm on pitch 1 followed by the Cup final (pitch 1) and the Shield final (pitch 2) at 2.15pm. All participants will receive a commemorative medal and a souvenir programme of the event.

A big thank you to our hosts Clanna Gael Fontenoy and our tournament match officials, John Doherty, Jason Buckley and Derek Greene.

Results and images from the day will be available on our social media pages / website.
