Leinster U16 Championship Final

FT Dublin 2-05 (11) Meath 3-09 (18)

Meath have won their second underage provincial title this season following a seven point victory over Dublin today in a wind swept Ballymore Eustace.

The Royal county led from start to finish with Dublin continuously having to play catch up to their Leinster neighbours.

The opening half of this entertaining contest served up three goals with Meath’s Amy O’Dowd (6th min) and Anna Wogan (14th min), on target for the Royals while Dublin’s goal was scored from the penalty spot.

Meath Captain and full back, Emma Jane McKeon, was sent to the sin bin by match official Ciarán Groome (Offaly) for a foul in the small square which led to the awarding of the penalty in the 25th minute.

Dublin Captain Katie O’Sullivan’s spot kick was saved by Meath keeper Aoibheann Corcoran, however, O’Sullivan reacted superbly to slot the rebound into the back of the Meath net.

Meath led by seven points at the interval with the score board reading Dublin 1-01 (4) Meath 2-05 (11).

Dublin introduced Erin Christie and Emma Kane for the second period hoping to ignite a Dublin comeback but their plan was thwarted by a third Meath goal scored in the 35th minute by Ciara Smyth.

Declan Darcy’s charges put the Meath defence under severe pressure as they tried to close the gap resulting in Meath keeper Aoibheann Corcoran having to pull off two fine saves.

Despite a late Dublin goal by corner forward Ella Darcy, Meath ran out comfortable winners to claim the 2019 U16 championship crown on a score line of 3-9 to 2-5.
