AIG LAUNCH NEW AIG DUB CLUB HEALTH INITIATIVE

Heart Safety Roadshow is the first programme to be delivered as part of the AIG Dub Club Health

AIG today launched the AIG Dub Club Health, a new club and community initiative in collaboration with Dublin GAA that aims to help support the health and wellbeing of Dublin GAA members across the club network. This initiative will consist of a number of roadshows discussing topics around health risks prevention and reduction, practical first aid training and advice, healthy living, physical activity, mental health and mindfulness.

The AIG Heart Safety Roadshow will be the first programme delivered within the new initiative. It will provide valuable hands on training around CPR, choking, defibrillator/AED usage, storage & maintenance. The programme will also include a full onsite defibrillator/AED health check and service.

Dublin players Cian O’Sullivan, Roisín Baker, Niamh McEvoy and Chris Crummey were at Parnell Park today to launch Dub Club Health.

AIG will be working closely with Dublin GAA and its Health & Wellness committee to collaborate and develop meaningful programmes under the new initiative for club members. In addition to the roadshows, AIG will support AIG Dub Club Health with a series of health and wellbeing videos and blogs.

This initiative is run in partnership with the Ciarán Carr Foundation, a charity that works to raise awareness of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (S.A.D.S.). Ciarán Carr collapsed & died in early 2012 while training with Round Towers GAA Senior Football team, two months from his 21st birthday. His parents Philip and Gemma Carr now work with local communities to train school and sporting leaders in CPR and defibrillator best practice. For more, see http://www.ciarancarrfoundation.ie

Further roadshows which will be delivered under the AIG Dub Club Health initiative are:

* Mental Health & Wellbeing - the mental health program will include talks around mental health & wellbeing, how to spot warning signs and how you can offer support.

* Physical Activity – the physical activity roadshow will include a talk from an expert discussing topics such as optimizing your training, how to adapt training for immediate and longer-term objectives, strength & conditioning, along with recovery and nutrition.

* Yoga – this will be an introduction to Yoga, demonstrating what it is, its benefits as well as a free class which will give club members the opportunity to experience yoga for themselves

AIG Dub Club Health will leverage some current and former Dublin GAA stars and other ambassadors as part of the roadshows. The initiative will kick off with 4 clubs, with additional clubs to be announced in the coming months. Clubs that are interested in taking part in the AIG Dub Club Health initiative can register their club’s interest at www.aig.ie/health

Speaking ahead of today’s launch General Manager of AIG in Ireland, Declan O’Rourke, said: “AIG is delighted to launch the new AIG Dub Club Health initiative which will promote, support and encourage healthy living across Dublin GAA clubs and communities. As an insurance company we manage risk and risk prevention is a key part of our business, so this initiative is the right fit for usand the communities we serve. Finally, I would like to thank Dublin GAA for their support on this initiative and the Dublin GAA players for helping us launch the initiative today.”
