AIG Dublin Feile Division 10 Final

Ballinteer St. Johns B 3-01

Ballyboden St. Endas C 0-06

Ballinteer St. Johns B got the better of Bally Boden St. Endas C in the Division 10 AIG Dublin Feile Final 2018 in Tallaght Stadium on Sunday morning. The 9:30 kick off didn’t deter a sizable crowd from turning out to watch the next generation of Dublin footballers in action.

The Ballinteer side’s eye for goal shone as bright as their orange strip as they struck early after some good play from the forward line on the right wing led to a goalmouth scramble, which despite Ballyboden’ s best defensive efforts led to an untidy but well deserved goal for Ballinteer.

A long-range shot left Ballyboden’ s goalkeeper Kate Coffey powerless to prevent another goal for Ballinteer just moments later as the ball hit the post and ricocheted in behind her.

However, Ballyboden were not deterred by the early goals from Ballinteer’s Sarah Fleming and Katie Dillon. Dusting them -selves off and working their way back into the game with some fine play of their own.

A period of relentless pressure from the Ballyboden blues, especially down the right flank, led to several goalmouth scrambles which forced Ballinteer’s goalkeeper Lisa Bergin and her defence into action, proving they have grit to back up their attacking flare.

Ballyboden’ s efforts were eventually rewarded with a point garnered from a free following a mistake from Ballinteer’s busy defence, which was breached once again moments later, suggesting a pre half-time come back could be on the cards.

Ballinteer brought on Keelin Keogh to replace Réalta Lattimore at full forward midway through the first half, and the move seemed to have an immediate impact as the Orange put a point on the board soon after. Another sub for Ballinteer followed soon after as Ailis Holland was replaced by Emily Rose Dunne following a collision.

Buoyed by their improved showing in the later stages of the first half Ballyboden try to take the game to Ballinteer, but the game soon swung back in Ballinteer’s favour, with the orange ladies delivering the best football in the second half. Ballyboden’ s defence seem to have learned their lesson after conceding twice in the first twenty and seemed determined not to give another goal away.

For the most part they seemed comfortable but as Ballyboden pushed forward they left space to be exploited by Ballinteer’s half forward Cora McCarthy, who slotted home the orange’s third goal to give them a 6 point lead coming into the final moments of the second half.

Credit must go to Ballinteer who didn’t lose focus despite conceding a third goal and they continued to bring the fight to Ballinteer, putting two more point on the board but unable close the gap, with Ballinteer winning out by 3-1 to 0-6.
